If I only have 5 minutes a day to exercise, should I even bother? Of course!! We all heard of the 10,000 steps a day program. Well, it starts here in your living room. I challenge you to march in place for 5 minutes a day for 5 days. You can add a minute a day for an extra challenge. In addition, do a plank for 10 second every morning. This is a great way to kick start your day.

After the holidays, now what?
Now that the kids are in back in school and all of the holidays are over and things seem to be back to normal, how many of you have stepped on the scale? Or put on those jeans again? Have you gained a little weight in past week? Don't worry, the holidays are hard for many people, you are not the only one. Workout and diet routines can be reestablished again and again. In fact, I am asked over and over again the same question. "When is the best time to work out, mornings, afternoons or evenings?" The answer is really quite simple. The best time to workout is the time that you will actually commit to working out. This is different for everyone. Some people may limp most ike to wake up at 5 am while others like to get to wind down at the end of the day with a nice jog. Everyones different. Another question that is asked over and over again, " How much exercise do I really need to do?" Well, that's a loaded question. You do what you can. Minimally, 3 times a week for at east 20 minutes. Even if you do a plank for 30 seconds a day, that is better than nothing.

H2O TO GO
Regardless of your fitness goals, a healthy diet is critical to a healthy lifestyle and a successful exercise program. Nutrition must be a core component. It all starts with H2O. Our muscles are made up of 60-70% water. There are many benefits of drinking water, such as weight loss, youthful looking skin, fatigue relief and reducing the risks of getting cancer. There are many other health benefits to drinking water. However, there is one more benefit that should not be overlooked and is not necessarily a health benefit, it's financial. Water is by far the least expensive drink that you can buy. It will not cost anything to put a glass to the faucet and fill it up 8 to 10 times a day. But if you add up how much a person might spend on a can of soda a day for 5 days a week for a year ($1 a day x 5 days = $5 x 4 weeks = $20 x 12 months = $240 year). I just saved you $240! How much water should you drink? You can do a simple urine test by yourself. If your urine is dark in color, you are not drinking enough water. Another simple test is to take your body weight, divide it in half and that is how many ounces of water you should be drinking a day. So, if you weigh 150 pounds, you should be drinking 75 ounces a day. This week, I challenge you to drink your water every day based on the two simple tests above and don't forget to continue with your 30 squats at the pump (see last weeks blog). Get Fit, Stay Mobile.

keep me fit and mobile
There is a lot that you can do to get in shape without spending a lot of extra time doing it. Forget taking one hour a day to go to an expensive gym to take that yoga class. Who has time for that? Not to mention the money? Once a week I will give you a homework assignment. This week your assignment will not take up any more time out of your day. We all have to get gas for our cars, right? So, when you are just standing next to the pump do 20 squats. Make sure you keep your feet shoulder width apart and remember do not over extend your knees pass your toes. Depending what type of car you have you might be able to do more than just 20. See if you can do 30 or 40. Remember, the more you do the better you will feel.

it has been too long.
One thing about being a mom of 4 is that you are extremely busy!! I would imagine that every Mom would say that they are busy and that they are non stop around the clock. I am sure that they are to a certain extent. Over the years I have developed a huge appreciation to Moms with multiple aged children. They are constantly on the go. How do they do it I ask? I usually get a nice smile and some polite comment like, "I love every moment of it". But if someone asked me I would have to quote the Nike saying, "just do it". That is what I do. I just did it. There are many days that I feel like I am in robot mode and I just follow the commands around me. But, when all is said and done and at the end of the day when all of my children are tucked in bed and sleeping soundly and I finally have a moment to sit and have a small glass of wine or water, I say to myself, "I did it"!!! "I got through another day of mishaps, life, and joy". It now won't take long before I crawl into my own bed and as soon as my head hits the pillow I will be fast asleep. So I bid you all a good night and sleep tight.

recovering from Mom-aholic
Hi. My name is LG and I am recovering from insanity. I am a mom of 4. Twin boys, a younger boy and a baby girl. I am insane. Three boys one girl. Talk about a must have sense of humor. A mom is the last one to be thanked, hugged and everything is her fault. Today I was the meanist mom in the world. I refused to buy my child a pack of hubba bubba gum. I ask, how can I be the meanist mom when little Danny down the street said that he had the meanest mom because she did not let him play his nintendo all day.
There should be a bumper sticker that says, "Have you hugged your mom Today?" Mom's are the last ones to be thanked by anybody. When dad's walk into the room everyones eyes lights up and they run towards him and say, what did you bring me. Of cource dad could pull out anything to loose chain to baseball tickets. But mom, she is stuck with, well if it weren't for me, you would be wearing dirty stinking underwear. Nobody would want to sit next to you in the lunch room because of your smell.
Mom's do alot just remember when the last time you hugged your mom. It was way to long ago. Go home and hug your mom, or call her onthe phone.
Until next time,
Mom loves you.
